Keep your work confined to an area so that you can concentrate on your work. Set specific working hours and stick to them as best as you can. Most of the time, home entrepreneurs tend to overwork as they are affected by distractions around the house - noise from the kids, pile of dirty laundry, etc.

Determine your own weaknesses and do something to tackle them. Keep yourself focused. Although it can be extremely hard for some people, do not leave your "office" unnecessarily except for breaks. If the noise from the T.V. placed near your work area is distracting you, shift to an area where distraction can be minimized. Do not go to parts of the house that will tempt you such as the kitchen. To be more effective, you may also arrange for a separate phone line.

You may feel lonely at your office. Do something to spice up your life. There are a million things that you can actually do. You can e-mail or log on to online forum chats. Call friends who run similar business as you do for a chit-chats. You can join certain associations or business clubs to widen your networking and to keep abreast of the latest market developments.

Support from your spouse is important. Before you start anything, talk to your spouse. No matter how busy you are allocate time for your family. Lay out contributions by you and your spouse for your household chores.

Be fully prepared to face challenges ahead. Starting small business either part-time/full-time or at home certainly helps to supplement your family income. Positive thinking is needed to ensure positive outcome.

Remember no matter what and how you do, you will need a plan. Seek information from relevant sources before you start anything. Some basic tips for small or home entrepreneurs are;

- Keep your fingers on everything financially. Stay close to your accounts.
- Control your overheads. Small business bleeds money. At the initial stage when the company is small and cash flow is minimal, keeping costs to the minimum is a necessity. Many businesses get into trouble by spending things lavishly from the very beginning.
- Shop around for supplies or services.
- Invest in technology. Even small business can save by taking full advantage of the latest technology.
- Reach out wisely - advertise your business within limits.
- Emphasize good relationship. People, such as your business partners to the clients that you work with are valuable assets.
