Grand Standing Buddha Statue / Ling Shan Da Fo, WUXI, Jiangshu Province, China
Grand and magnificient ! It was claimed
to have used more than 700 mteric tons of copper-alloy to built this statue and it
is very believable. But if you are wondering just how high is the Grand Buddha Standing
Statue ? Errr ... at 88 meters, it is taller than the famous Statue of Liberty landmark
located in New York city. Probably I would require scales to show you how high is
it here. Unlike many other statues in other parts of the world, the Ling Shan Da
Fo, as it is an opened air statue, is entirely made out of special reinforced bronze/copper-alloy
which also has a very good metal properties in corrosive resistance nature. The style
of Lord Buddha is standing with eright hand faced-raise and the right palm faced
outward which symbolizes Buddhist blessing. The Grand Buddha Statue is accessible
for public to go the bottom section only. Under the statue, you wil find a Buddhist
museum, praying rooms as well as theatre. The long walking way of approx. 217 steps
up may be taxing for some elderly, but the park management has shutter-buses to send
those who prefer to take a ride right down to the front.
