"I've always been interested in bikes. My brother, my father are all
into it. My father has two old Charlies that he has restored to perfect condition,"
she remarks. "I started out as a pillion rider, went out with friends. It wasn't
enough and I wanted to handle it on my own. I was riding around town, going for trips.
I enjoyed it very much."
And she did not even have a riding licence when she bought her RX600.
She continues, "But looking back, I think if I still have the bike, I
would have been six feet under a long time ago. I couldn't maintain it, resources
were running out, so I sold it off to pay for my school fees. I don't think I'll
get another one because it is quite a dangerous sport but it was really exhilarating."

Angie Ng's grandmother hailed from Songkhla. So she's got Thai blood which
explains her fetish for spicy food. But she claims she eats anything, and anything
goes.
Her hobby includes golf and kung fu videos.
"The more laser beams, the more flying kicks, the better," she declares.
She dresses for comfort, choosing to go for casual wear rather than the trendy.
"Nobody sees me in the studio so it doesn't matter if I go without make
up, in my old jeans, sometimes in my T -shirt which I have slept in. I have even
gone to work in my sarong because I was late for the 3:00 a.m. show. Only when I'm
doing an emcee job or meeting clients do I dress more formally, I prefer dark shades,
not to accentuate my figure but more to play it down."
And when it comes to music she lists R&B as her favourite as well as the
more sentimental stuff.
"Call me old-fashioned if you like, songs that pull the heartstrings,"
she says.
Her favourite deejays?
"I tune in to Patrick whenever I can in the mornings. I learnt a thing
or two from him, if not more. I listen to the Fly Guy and the other stations as well.
Yasmin, I grew up listening to, but if I say it like that it makes her sound very
old," she laughs. "She is my idol. I'm not trying to emulate her but I've
always been in awe of her. We've got a pretty good friendship gong on right now but
before I joined radio, I would wake up at six just to tune in to her. I hope she
doesn't think I'm buttering her bu
t it's true."
Based on the number of people who regularly calls her on her shows, Angie
Ng has built up a formidable following. She counts her mother as her most faithful
fan. "She'll listen to me, she'll criticise me and she'll correct me if I pronounce
anything wrong. I hope to make my parents proud and I think I have."
RTM must feel proud too, for despite having offers to work in other stations
she has loyally stuck to her station.
"I'm very comfortable working at Radio 4," she declares.
Angie was very sporting and cooperative during the days we took to complete
this feature. The photo sessions itself took two days and many miles.
"I had fun doing the fashion shoot despite being in the sun and attacked
by the hordes of mosquitoes," she says. "But for one thing, I would say,
I wouldn't do it for a living. At least I can say I've experienced it."
I found out during the shoot that one of Angie's pet hates was creepy crawlies.
Hence her refusal to go deep amongst the trees. But in the old wooden shed, Angie,
did you see the carcass and all the things around it and in it?
And a final note, guys. Marriage may not be that far away, perhaps within
these two years. Perhaps even sooner.
