Cheah Thien Soong @ Cheah Mei
was born in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia in 1942 and graduated from Nanyang Academy
of Fine Arts, Singapore in 1962. He is presently co-ordinator in ink painting section
of both Malaysian Institute of Art and Eastern Arts Research Centre. He is also Chairman
of Negeri Sembilan Art Society; Advisor of Seremban, Malacca Alliance of Persatuan
Senitulis, Malaysia. Other than these, he also serves as a member of International Contemporary Ink-Painting Association, ISPAA (International Society of Plastic and Acidid-Visual Arts) and Federation of International Color-ink Artists. Cheah received the "Creative Award" of Persatuan Alumni Seni Lukis Akademi Nanyang Singapore, Malaysia in 1989. In the same year, he received a Special Award of Johore, Malacca and Negeri Sembilan Joint Exhibition. In 1995, he was awarded "Outstanding Creative Award Domination 1995" by the Chinese Calligraphy, Painting and Seal Society and Chinese Cultural Activity Association, Taipei, Taiwan. He was then awarded "Classical & Contemporary Poetry, Calligraphy ~ Painting Honourable Degree" by the Society. He was also awarded First Prize in ink painting in the First International Competition of Calligraphy, Painting & Seal Art Exhibition. Cheah held solo/joint art exhibitions in many places including Kuching, Seremban, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Baru, Penang, Tawau, Beijing, Nanking, Jiangsu, Guilin, Nanning, Guangzhou, India, Taipei, Korea and others. In 1993, he was appointed committee member of Beijing International Art and Calligraphy Fair, and participated in China Art Fair in Guangzhou. In 1990, he attended the "International Dung Huang Symposium". In 1991, he attended the First YiXiang Art International Symposium in Xi An, China. |
