Leitz Summicron
1:2/35mm wideangle lens
Summicron was first introduced in 1958. It boosts the maximum aperture by a full
f-stop from the previous Summaron 1:2.8/35mm. It has become a very popular 35mm lens
for the Leica at following years. The screw-mount version possibly had its life cycle
from '58 ~1963. The bayonet mount version was more popular in terms of numbers. While
there were also for the Leica M3 which requires spectacles to be used. Virtually
the bayonet mount version only has chrome finishing, while the screw mount in either
chrome or small number of black finishing were being produced but screw mount is
in lesser quantity. Some of the Summicron were made by Leitz Canada.
While this site only centers on screw mount lenses,
but in general, the 1:2/35mm Summicron listed as:
Mk I (8 elements double Gauss optical design)
1958~1963 - LSM
1958~1969 - Bayonet
1958~1974 - M3 version w/ocular attachment
Mk II/III (all black, 6 elements, Bayonet only)
1969~1979
Mk IV (7 elements, Bayonet only)

LEICA SUMMICRON-M 35MM F2, 8 elements, IN BLACK CHROME! s/n 19971xx
" .... Above is a Summicron 35mm f2 (M) Black paint Germany). Very rare German
Blackpaint. It's the 2nd version of the 35/2 Black paint Germany for M2 .The filter
ring and aperture are in black chrome, and other parts are in black paint, such as
focusing scale, stopper, and mount flange. The bottom of the mount flange is in chrome,
and the side is in black paint on brass. This Black-stopper and Side Flange in Black
version is very rare. Glass is very clean without any scratches and foggy. I checked
the focus, it was very sharp. Come with front metal cap and leather case. The front
cap is in black-chrome... " Digifan, Hong Kong.
