Manta Ray (Manta Birostris) A sad sight. This poor creature has entangled itself several times with a mooring rope. The rope is holding its mouth closed and cutting into its flesh. I tried to cut the rope free but failed as it moved fast in the water. Sadly, it was destined to die. Manta Ray regularly rub themselves against anchor ropes or mooring ropes, presumably to rid themselves of parasites, they have been known to slip boats anchors in this way. | Back | Next | 7/15 |
