Nikon compartment cases deserve an interesting mention, as the FB5 and FB8 incorporated metal F bayonets on which to mount the lenses, which makes the lenses quite secure and less likely to go banging into each other. They also feature very deeply-opening lids, which facilitates lens removal. On the other hand, leather cases don't breathe too well and certainly don't help to prevent fungus ...
