Subject: Variant: Nikon F3 Titanium Classic
To: leofoo@mir.com.my
Hi Mr. Foo, First of all congratulations and thank you for a great site. I have been
enjoying it for years. I am also a collector of mechanical cameras, particularly
F2 and F3 variants, and I wanted to share with you an F3 variant, the F3T Classic,
which I came across and purchased in Japan. When I came upon the camera I had a Japanese
friend verify with Nikon directly, as I had not heard of this particular model. They
indeed confirmed that they had produced a hundred of these camera for one of their
oldest camera dealers, Ando Camera of Japan, in celebration of the
50th year of their relationship. I enclose photos of the set, but here are some details:
 |
1) Set comes in a package with a matched 50mm 1:1.2 standard
Nikkor lens, with the matching serial number in gold colour on the barrel. Documentation,
special strap, etc., comes in a box as photographed. My set is #30 out of the hundred.
2) The camera itself is similar to the F3T, but with the added engravings and
text in the front, back, and baseplate. The quality of the engraving is very good,
especially considering it is on Titanium, and the font is different than the F3T.
|
3) Unusually, the titanium baseplate is engraved with
the serial number - in this case T030 - just to the left of "Made in Japan".
See photo. I have many of the variants - F2 Data, F2 Titans (both models), F2H, F3T,
F3 Limited, F3P, F3H - but this is the first time I have seen the serial number on
the baseplate.
It is a lovely set, the only complaint I have really is that the name of the dealer
is also stenciled in the back of the camera. All in all, and given the level of craftmanship,
it is a wonderful piece. Let me know if you want more detail and photos. Regards,
Carlos
