Nikon F5 Anniversary Model 1948-1998

Nikon F5 diecast.jpg (26k)
Nikon published a very nice print media advertisement in Japan showing beneath its exterior cosmetic with die cast body structure of the Nikon F5 underneath. Obviously, they have a different opinion in the definition as Canon over the intepretation of the word: 'ruggedness' because the Canon EOS-1n was adopting the use of carbon-fibred industrial strength plastic (the subsequent EOS-1V introduced after the Nikon F5 has reverted back to metal construction). Simialrly, Nikon F5 Anniversary model is also well protected within the robust external all Aluminum-alloy metal casing.

Some users have claimed the top plate, with the newly adopted copper-looked chrome coating was also made out of Titanium (Can't confirmed this). The viewfinder prism, the weakest link in the previous F3 and F4 in a real-life drop test scenario, was now made of a much stroner Titanium caseing in the F5 which serves to provide additional protection to external impact. However, the F5 anniversary model, is different from the standard Classic F5 where the inscribed name "Nikon" came with a different type face which was similar to the old days of Nikon rangefinder cameras. Some Nikon fans thus called the new multi-metered prism/finder as DP-30A - but officially, the finder was still named as DP-30. SEE HERE.

Material used for the TOP and BOTTOM plate: Contributed by Mr Eric Andeson <eric.andersen@central.sun.com>

Relative: The Total Quantity being produced. Compared this with a pre-production mockup model of the F5.
