Batteries and Charger
A pair of Ni-Cd S-12 batteries, designed solely for this camera, are necessary for both exposure metering and motor drive. They can be recharged with the exclusive Canon Battery Charger S-12.Recharging the Ni-Cd S-12 Batteries
1) Plug the power cord of the charger into an AC outlet. The pilot lamp on the charger will glow.
2) Load the batteNes so that their terminals face in the directions indicated on the charger.
3) When a sufficient charge has almost been reached, the pilot lamp will flash on and off.
4) When charging has finished, the pilot lamp will become weak. Refer to the following data on recharging. After 4 hours of continuous charging, the batteries will be charged to 70% or more of their capacity. After 10 hours of continuous charging, they will be charged to 85% or more of their capacity.
5) Remove the plug from the AC outlet after charging.
6) The charger can charge either one or two batteries at the same time.

1. Use the Ni-Cd Charger S-12 exclusively for recharging the Ni-Cd S-12 batteries. NEVER use it to charge other batteries.
Precaution
2. Recharging should be done at temperatures from 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F.)
3. Since the Ni-Cd power source will discharge gradually even when it is not in use, it should be fully recharged after purchase, before each use, and at least once every three months.
4. The Ni-Cd Charger S-12 will control the flow of electric current to the Ni-Cd S-12 Batteries automatically. Once the Ni-Cd S-12 Batteries have been fully recharged, the flow of current will be lessened. Therefore, there is no worry about overcharging or discharging. DO NOT recharge the Ni-Cd S-12 Batteries for an excessively long time, however, since it may deteriorate the battery performance.
5. DO NOT attempt to take the Ni-Cd Charger S-12 apart or to modify it in any way.
6. NEVER short circuit the terminals of the Ni-Cd S-12 Batteries with a conductor such as metal, because it is VERY DANGEROUS.
7. DO NOT thraw the battery away in a fire.
8. If it is necessary to use the Battery Charger S-12 in an area with different voltage, it should be taken to an authorized Canon service facility for modification.
9. Always unplug the charger from the electrical outlet before cleaning and servicing it and when it is not in use. NEVER yank the cord when pulling the plug out of the outlet. Grasp the plug and pull it to disconnect.
Batteries
The Canon F-1 High Speed Motor Drive Camera uses two exclusive Ni-Cd batteries for film winding, rewinding and exposure metering.
Loading the Batteries1 ) Loosen the screw on the bottom of the battery case to remove its bottom cover.
2) Load the two Ni-Cd batteries into the chamber, putting in the end with the terminals first.
3) Reattach the cover of the battery case by first fitting the hinge together and then tightening the attachment screw.
Checking the Batteries
1) Turn the power switch on the back of the battery case ON ( | ).
2) Press the battery check button. If the green battery check lamp lights, there is sufficient voltage.
Make sure the power switch is OFF ( O ) when the camera is not in use. If the switch is left ON ( | ), the power level of the fully charged batteries will drop below the required voltage level within 36 hours and shooting will be impossible.
