With the cameras mentioned above, the shutter speed is automatically set to each camera's X-sync speed upon flash charge completion. You can use any one of four modes to set the aperture. The first is the PROGRAM mode in which the camera sets the aperture automatically. This system responds to a wide range of illuminations from dark surroundings to bright, so supplemental lighting during the daytime is also possible. Secondly, in the F. NO. SET mode, you can select the aperture from a range of eight between f/2 and f/22. By selecting the aperture, you can take such factors as flash recycling time and depth of field into consideration. 

Manual flash photography is possible in the MANUAL FULL mode with a guide number of 30 (ISO 100.M, flash head setting of 35mm, at full cahrge).  The last mode is MANUAL 1/16 which is used for fill-flash. One of the 299T's safety features is the auto power-off function which prevents unnecessary consumption of battery energy if you forget to turn off the flash. If the main switch is ON but the flash has not been used for approx. 25 minutes, it automatically switches off.  In addition, slow-sync flash photography with the F-1 and A-1, plus synchronized multiple flash photography with all of the above cameras are possible. The film speed can be set up to ISO 1000 and all the operating controls are arranged on the back of the unit to make the advanced functions easier to use.

Aside from exposure control, the 299T offers several other professional features.

One is its bounce flash mechanism. The flash head can be tilted upward and/or swung right and left to bounce off a wall, ceiling, or other sutable surface and create softer lighting effects. Another feature is the built-in zoom mechanism. Efficient use of flash energy is ensured because the flash head moves backwards and forwards adjusting the flash coverage angle to fit the lens in use.
