Until today, macro photography has always being one of the strongest point of selecting Nikon system. Pehaps the Nikon F started this in 35mm SLR microphotography, base on its platform set earlier with the rangefinder system.

For it is especially in close-ups that the Nikon F excels. The many features that make close-ups a joy to take with the Nikon F are of cause start with a viewfinders to show you 100% of the picture area to be registered on film, the depth-of-field preview button to let you see the depth of field at the taking aperture, the through-the-lens metering of the Photomic-T series finders to give you some relatively fail proof exposure measurement and the accessory like Waist-Level Finder to provide you with the low-or ground-level viewing convenience so often required in close-up work.

The Nikon F always rewarding is the large collection of accessories and attachments available to you: Close-Up Attachment Lenses, Extension Ring E2, Extension Ring Set K, Bellows Focusing Attachments PB4 and PB-5, 105mm f/4 Bellows Nikkor, Slide Copying Adapter PS-4 and PS-5, Repro-Copy Outfit Model PF and two distinct lenses specifically designed for close-ups, the 55mm f/3.5 Micro-Nikkor-P Auto and 200mm f/5.6 Medical-Nikkor Auto. With this special close-up capability of the Nikon F, you are always prepared to record faithful scenes in marvelous colors, rich details and the many other fascinating secrets that escape the eye.

Whatever are your interests and no matter the extent of your budget, there are wide assortment of close-up equipment, the right tool to meet your specific needs. The key to macro photography is the magnification power of the lens through the simple attachment of a supplementary lens to the taking lens or by extending the lens-to-film distance through the insertion of a device of fixed (ring) or adjustable (bellows) length between the lens and the camera body.

In close-up photography, more than anything else, the detailed definition of the texture comes first. Therefore correct focusing will decide the total picture- quality. The Nikon Eyepiece Magnifier with a 2-power magnification will help you with pinpoint focusing. Unlike candids or snapshots, you shoot only after you have studied carefully what the final effect will be. You can see through the viewfinder the exact depth of field or outfocused area. Just before you press the release button, try to make sure that the focusing is still correct. Request the people around you not to walk about. The tripod is very important, especially if you're doing an extreme close-up. It should be as sturdy as possible.

Some professionals test the steadiness of the ground with a cup of water on a table. If the water moves, you'll know the tripod is not on firm support. Or you can use the Nikon Bubble Level. In order to prevent wind-blown movement, surround your subject with a paper or vinyl wall. For extreme close-ups, always use the Nikon Cable Release.
