PRECISELY MATCHED LENS INFORMATION - something that makes the BIG difference from the analog

PGRMchart.gif (10k) Loading ...
One of the distinctive advantage of the EOS system is, exposure program information is always ideally suited to the lens in use and there is no need to worry about changing exposure program when changing lenses as each Canon EF lens incorporates a four-bit microprocessor that stores data reflecting the special characteristics of the lens. The EOS 620 "reads" this information via the data bus between lens and camera, then selects the ideal program line to ensure correct exposure. For an example, when the automatically set shutter speed is too slow for handheld photography (0 to 0. 5 steps below 1/lens focal length, generally said to be the limit for handheld shooting), the camera-shake warning sounds.

EF LENS MOUNT Many exciting possibilities that have never deemed possible previously in 35mm photography are achieved via the EF lens mount.

The difference is simple as the LARGE diameter mount provides a new level of technical possibilities coupled with the kind of response, accuracy and reliability you need for optimum results. Canon's EOS autofocus system utilizes a fully electronic lens mount design - there are no mechanical connections whatsoever between the camera body and the lens. The precision -machined EF (Electro-Focus) lens mount features gold-plated electronic contacts that transmit data between the central computer in the camera and the onboard computer (which controls autofocus and aperture control functions) in the lens.

Since there are no mechanical connections, response, accuracy and reliability are all improved in comparison with conventional, mechanical coupling systems. In addition, the autofocus drive system can still be used when an extender or extension tube are mounted. Canon's lens-integral EOS autofocus enhances both your technical expertise and creative capability by being incredibly fast. It does this by positioning the focusing motor in the most suitable place - in the lens. With this lens-integral design, focusing motor power specifications can be matched precisely with lens power requirements. Mounting each motor right where its power is utilized maximizes efficiency so as to ensure picture by picture, frame after frame is captured in crisp, clear focus.

The development of the EF mount allowed Canon to provide EOS users with HIGH-QUALITY CANON EOS LENSES. Canon EF lenses are one of the biggest selling points of the EOS System, with mid- and upper-level amateurs - the type of people who follow the examples and advices of professional photographers to make the move toward autofocus photography. Also important is the fact that there is an EF lens available to suit any photo situation. But no matter which lens you choose, your prospects will get an unbeatable combination of precision craftsmanship, professional-level quality and leading-edge technology.

Although the EF lens family was considered as limited in numbers during the initial stage, Canon has since adopted a do or die mission with the EOS system, the growth of the EF lenses has one of the fastest rate in enabling completeness of lenses consisiting of various focal lengths and choices among the AF 35mm SLR camera manufacturers.

Furthermore, some exotic series of EF lenses are also being introduced with each generation of high-end EOS cameras, this is to entice users to be more aware of the distinctive advantages the new EF lens mount over the older FD mount as well as those produced by the competitors. Within a short period of time, Canon has emerged as the SLR company that has the largest selection of autofocus lenses in the EOS system and their rivals are still playing catch-up even today.
