Autofocus
AF Control System: TTL-SIR (Secondary Image Registration) phase detection type using 3 points cross-type BASIS (1+1).
Two modes available: One-shot and AI Servo with Focus Prediction that automatically switches to One-shot and Al Servo according to subject. Manual focusing also possible.
AF Working Range: EV1.5 - 18 at ISO 100
AF Auxiliary Light: Built-in AF auxiliary light fires automatically when necessary.
Exposure Control
Light Metering: TTL full aperture metering using a 6-zone SPC (Composite Silicon Photocell). Two metering patterns available : 6-zone evaluative metering, central partial metering which covers approx. 9.5% of the finder area. Shutter speed-priority AE, Intelligent program AE, and four Programmed Image Control modes set with a dial.
Metering Range: EV 2-20 with 50 mm f/1.4 lens at ASA 100.
Film Speed Setting: Automatically set according to DX code (ISO 25 - 5000)

Film Transport
Film Loading: Film transport with the built-in motor. Automatic prewind system. Align film leader at mark, then close the camera back for prewind loading. First, the entire roll is wound on the take-up spool. Then each time a picture is taken, the film advances back into the cartridge. After film positioning and back cover closure, the film automatically winds to the end of the roll and stops.Film Wind: Automatic. One of two modes is automatically set: Single Frame and Continuous (1 fps maximum).
Film Rewind : Automatically rewinds at end of roll. Mid-roll rewinding is possible.
Frame Counter: Provided. Counts down on external LCD panel (counts up during prewind loading).
Multiple Exposures: Possible, Maximum 9 exposures onlyBuilt-in Flash
Type: Retractable, TTL automatic exposure flash housed in the pentaprism By-pass control system.

Flash Control System: TTL automatic control by metering light reflected from the film plane.
Shooting Distance Range: 3.29 -12.50 ft / 1-3.8m (Based on ISO 100 print film. The shooting distance range changes according to film speed.)
AF Auxiliary Light: Automatically emitted when the shutter button is pressed halfway when necessary. Effective distance range: 16.43 ft/5m.Others
Camera Shake Warning: Operates in Green Zone and Programmed Image Control modes.
Red-Eye Reduction Function: Applicable for all shooting modes.
Self-Timer: Electronically controlled with a 10-sec. delay with beeper tone. The built-in electronic self-timer (with blinking Red-Eye reduction lamp).
Date Imprint (EOS 888QD only): Four formats available with a built-in date/time function using dot LCD and automatic calendar with built-in quartz digital/time clock. Programmed lapsed year is up to 2019.

The QD (Quartz Date) version of the EOS 888/5000 features a built-in digital calendar and clock programmed to the year 2019. Data is printed at the bottom right corner of the film frame in one of the following four data formats: Year/Month/Day, Day /Hour /Minute, Month/Day/Year, Day/Month/Year. The printer can also be turned off when no imprint is required.
