EVALUATIVE METERING

At the camera section, the EOS 650 incorporating a proven main stream metering method called Evaluative Metering for more hassle free exposure calculation. (not entirely a Canon's exclusive pioneered technology, but it has been perfected).

The new metering system provide a solution to those who are not too familiar with exposure control and manipulation of metering patterns and thus, there is no worries with commonly found tricky situations such as backlighting or white/black backgrounds. Aiming specifically at first timer SLR user, the metering has helped to boost user's confidence in picture taking. The EOS 650's evaluative metering (or "Factor-Six Light Analysis") metering system is a feature that has helped to sell many of the prospects on the EOS 650 especially at the retailers end.

The evaluative metering system heads off the disappointments that conventional metering systems can cause when photographing under difficult lighting conditions and it was a welcoming feature as most amateurs have difficulties overcome such level of exposure control.

This EVALUATIVE system breaks the viewfinder image into six separate areas; light is measured in each area on an individual basis, and that information is then fed into the camera's computer for analysis. The suggested optimum exposure is hence, set in accordance with the camera's exposure calculation methods based on thousands of actual photographic samples.

For those who prefers to have a hand on control over exposure selected, the EOS 650 also has a partial metering mode that reads about 6.5% of the viewing screen area. This allows the user to emphasize one part of an image for absolute color or black and white control.

1/2000TH OF A SECOND SHUTTER SPEED AND BUILT-IN 3 FPS (FRAMES PER SECOND) MOTOR DRIVE

The EOS 650 has a moderately high top shutter speed of 1/2000 second. Although to many serious users, the shutter speed was not considered to be too desirable for true professional use, and while many of prospects may not consciously think about using this top speed to begin with, it is the type of advance feature that confirms a certain high level of performance and reassures prospects.

Well, along with the EOS650, Canon did provide another alternative in a more seriously-spec model, EOS620 which was introduced barely few months after the 650 t serve that needs. Of course, as they raise their level of proficiency, users will make more use of the top shutter speed.

Just like the conventional Canon midrange Manual Focus SLRs previously available after the '80, EOS 650 also incorporates a built-in motor drive but it comes with a top speed of three frames per second (3 fps). Since the drive is integrated right into the camera body, it adds little weight and doesn't hinder handling and maneuverability. In addition to the continuous mode, the motor drive offers a single frame mode for the convenience of automatic film advance.
