Case study on two Leica M3 double stroke
units and their respective premium in the used, collectible photographic equipment
market. The first model featured carries a S/N 70048x while the follow-up model at
the bottom of this page has a S/N M3-70078x - difference of 300 production number.
M3-70048x chrome was a very early M3
with most basic M3 early features which includes corner, the S/N suggests it was
from the first series of 800 M3 bodies, all parts original, in perfect technical
condition. Condition rated as B by Leicashop® auction team. Year of produce
is the same at 1954. The auction start price is EURO 3,500-00 with a hammer price
of EURO 5,76* 0 inc. premium.
The next unit which carries a S/N 70078x has a modest start up price of EURO 1,900-00*
even supplied with a Summicron-M 2/5cm lens.
You can evaluate the differences via all the downloaded images from old archive at
Leicashop® auction. Unfortunately, the images shown has not shown with the film
back removed and see if the film track between the two had different design i.e.
newer units has double rails. This could or may significantly affect the premium
between the two Leica early M3 bodies. Cross reference: Leica M3-700131
* NOTE;- Indicative price(s) herein is/are based original
prices published on previous auction literature/references. Prices may vary according
to gradual yearly premium, supply/demand equations, and/or other renewed valuation
methods.

Leica M3 double
stroke chrome model with an early Serial Number
700782
Here is another M3 double stroke. It
is a very early camera in absolutely lovely condition, embodies with all basic features
of an early M3 cameras (without corner). The camera also came with a matching early
collapsible Summicron-M 2/5cm. Approx. Year: 1954. Just slightly out of the earliest
production series and as a basis of price comparison; this early M3 camera/setup
has quite a reasonable start price of EUR 1.900-00. I guess mainly due to slight
imperfection to rate it as mint. You may compare the Summicron 1:2 f=5cm lens with
the Prototype
Simmicron-M 5cm f/2.0 as used on the M3
prototype, 1952. Similarly, also compare an alternate late ELMAR 5cm lens as used
on the LEICA
M3 100131.
* NOTE;- Indicative price here in this site were based original
prices published on previous auction literature/references. Prices may vary according
to gradual yearly premium, supply/demand equations, and/or other renewed valuation
methods.
